This classic 1950s demi-parure was made in Mexico by the taller of highly regarded jewelry designer Margot van Voorhies Carr, widely known as Margot De Taxco. The 3-piece sterling silver set is finished in luminous green enamel and consists of a choker necklace, bracelet and earrings, all of which feature plaques decorated with a simplified version of Margot's well known Mask design necklace. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the design consists of an elegant linear Greek Key/meander motif set on a stippled ground.
The demi-parure is in excellent condition with no damage to the enamel. The set is presented as found and has not been polished in order to preserve the original finish. As vintage items, the jewelry shows signs of age consisting of light marks to the silver that are mentioned for accuracy. The necklace is 13.5" long and the bracelet is 7.25" long. Both pieces close by virtue of fully functional box clasps and can be connected to each other in order to create a longer necklace that measures approximately 20.5". The necklace is made up of 25 enameled plaques while the bracelet has 13 enameled plaques. The plaques are .5" by .25". The decorative plaques that make up the earrings measure .625 " by .375".
The necklace and bracelet carry Margot De Taxco's maker's mark along with design number "5403 A", the words "STERLING MADE IN MEXICO" and the eagle bell mark. The screw back earrings are also fully hallmarked with one reading "MARGOT DE TAXCO 5403" while the other reads "STERLING MADE IN MEXICO" along with the Eagle bell mark. The screw closures operate easily with no warping. The demi-parure has a combined weight of 49 grams.
This gorgeous MCM demi-parure displays beautifully and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of Margot de Taxco enameled jewelry or a larger grouping of fine designer jewelry. An elegant vintage find!
